One of the most effective ways to correct deformed and crooked teeth till now have been the use of braces. But, the good news is that you do not have to adorn the ugly metal braces anymore. Dentistry has now become high-tech and lasers and computers have transformed the old dentistry that our parents knew.

Porcelain is rather brittle by itself. But when it’s bonded to a tooth, it becomes a part of it, and is very strong and durable. It’s also highly stain-resistant, since it’s a glass-like substance.

Unlike veneers, porcelain crowns cover all surfaces of the tooth and are used only when the tooth is fractured or in a broken state. The porcelain used is the same as that used for veneers so they are strong and give a natural look. Porcelain unlike many conventional crowns does not leave a black line at the gum level.

The various uses of porcelain in dental procedures can be given as follows:

Porcelain veneers – These are thin shells which a cosmetic dentist will bond permanently to the front surface of a tooth. The porcelain is chosen to match the natural colour of surrounding teeth. This is a fast and effective way of addressing such minor but annoying defects such as Small gaps, Slight crookedness, Stains, spots or small cracks and Slight misalignment.

Porcelain crowns – These are modern improvements on the old metal crowns. A crown is a custom-made cover for a tooth which has become severely decayed and needs protection to survive. Crowns can be made from Gold, Metal alloy and a combination of metal and porcelain.

Porcelain inlays and onlays – These are types of fillings made of porcelain that match your natural tooth colour. Rather than being tightly packed into the cavity, as the old metal fillings were, the porcelain is bonded to the tooth, giving it great strength and durability.

Through the use of porcelain, a cosmetic dentist not only repairs your teeth, he also enhances their beauty at the same time.
