Does An E-Commerce Site Need SEO Services?

E-commerce, an industry that seems capable of driving itself without the aid of the usual internet marketing services. Those new to the industry often wonder whether e-commerce actually needs a service like search engine optimization (SEO). After all, with hundreds if not thousands of products available from the e-commerce website, won’t they be able to sell themselves according to the needs of a currently established client base in the physical world?

To answer this, one might perhaps do best by examining a couple of factors that come in to play. They are:

  • Will the current physical-world client base be willing to switch to online shopping? If so, how will that impact the physical premises?
  • Search engines – what are they there for and do you really need them?
  • Search Engine Optimization – what it can do for your business.

Real world clients vs. Online clients

Whether you’re existing client would rather prefer to shop online than in your store or on your premises remains totally up to them. Where some might prefer the physical look and feel of a product as an aid toward that very important decision of buying, others might prefer the luxury of sitting at home selecting the products they need online.

Yet, in a world where every business’ primary aim is to make money, the matter of getting existing clients to rather shop online becomes questionable. Without encouraging greed, one would have to wonder whether it wouldn’t be more beneficial for the business to have an increase in customers rather than a seemingly constant client base. In other words, keeping the existing customers in the store and thereby retaining the actual worth of having a store and having an additional client base in the form of online customers.

The Question Of Search Engines – What Are They There For?

Search engines, like Google, Yahoo and MSN, are virtual directories to help the ordinary web user get the information he or she needs without having to sift through billions of websites. Most of them list websites according to importance which is determined by a set of algorithms. In most cases, however, websites have to be submitted to them before the algorithm comes into play.

In terms of the e-commerce seo website, this goes along with that increased client base where thousands if not millions of people are introduced to the website whilst searching for the products they need. This means more clients; it means an increase in profits.

Search Engine Optimization – What Is It?

You might have heard of search engine optimization before coming across this article. It has become a byword on the internet and, in its broadest terms, describes a number of marketing techniques not only to people, but to search engines as well.

In the previous section we mentioned that websites are submitted to search engines to notify those search engines of the websites existence so that they may apply their algorithms to the content of those submitted websites. The problem, however, is that in most industries there may be more than 100 companies trying to get noticed on the first pages of the search engine results pages (SERP's). Why? This is because an average web user will rather try a different set of keywords for his or her search than browse beyond page 2 of the SERP’s.

Search engine optimization is therefore crucial to any business ecommerce services, which wants to add to their existing client base or build a completely new one. In fact, without SEO the purpose of an e-commerce website becomes pointless as it will be thousands of dollars spent for something that only a handful of people will ever see. So, in conclusion, the answer to the question of “Does An E-Commerce Site Need SEO Services?” becomes a resounding “Yes!”
