All public records are created by the government and stored in the respective stats in the United States.  Birth records, which are part of the public records, contain the birth certificates and other documents related to a person’s birth, including the data of birth, place of birth etc.  These records are created on the basis of the birth certificates produced by the hospital where the birth has taken place.  They also contain the demographic information as well as other historical information.  The names, age and other details of both parents are recorded in these records.

All birth records are filed electronically with the county registrar, at the place of birth.  These records are only given access to the person whose name is on the records, the parents of the birth record holder, their children, legal representative or a legal guardian of the birth record holder.  While earlier, it would involve visits to the registrar’s office to obtain these records, and apart from that it involves spending a lot of time, as it is usually with any government offices.  Now things have become easier and these records can be gained access to on the internet with ease.

Birth records are considered to be the perfect proof of the age of a person and they are important when joining colleges or even when applying for certain jobs.  They can also prove to be very important when identifying the parents of the person, as their details are shown in the birth records too.  They can also be used when applying for a passport and obtaining the driving license.  If you want to gain access to them offline, it is necessary to contact the city Health department in the place of birth.  These records are considered to be private records and are not public in nature.  Hence, people will not be able to get the copies of other unrelated person’s birth records.

For people looking for certified copies of the birth certificates, they will be given these by the vital records offices.  This will be printed on security paper with the state registrar’s seal and signature.   Uncertified copies of the birth certificates are easily provided to anyone that applies for it, but it is a little more difficult to obtain the certified copies.  However, uncertified copies are only good to procure the information given in the records and will not serve the purpose of submitting them when applying for anything.

The websites that provide these records online have some protocol that needs to be followed in order to ensure security of the personal details.  The original copies are obtained for a small fee, which can be anything above $25 and below $100.

These records will cost money, either online or offline, the only difference being, online procedures are faster and are almost effortless.  You may of course have to wait for a day or two if you have requested for certified copies of the records.
